World Day Against Trafficking in Persons -- How Is This Worse Than Ever?

So today, July 30th, 2020, is the official World Day Against Person Trafficking. How insane is it that this has to be a thing? How much more terrifying is it that 2020 has been an awful year for children trafficking specifically? We have some stats and resources because awareness is key.

WTF.

Here's a few facts from worldschildren.org about the statistics of trafficking.

  • 1 in 4 trafficking victims are Children.
  • Children are x4 more likely to be used for LABOR rather than sex.
  • There are estimated 168 MILLION child laborers world wide in hazardous conditions. That's like half the total number of people in America. If that number is hard to believe, keep in mind India alone is 4-5 times larger than the US.
  • 55% are girls. That's 85 Millions missing girls.
  • Child labor leads to no education which keeps them in poverty which perpetuates the cycle.
  • 98% of victims trafficked for sex are girls. Vulnerability is real.
  • Traffickers around the world are only getting better at what they do and their tricks can be disguised as going into villages or neighborhoods pretending to offer jobs.

FUCK CHILD TRAFFICKING

Yeah. If more people would keep the idea closer to the front of their mind, we might make some progress. It's an awful thing to have you life stolen from you and be forced to live in terrible conditions with the worst people. It is heartbreaking for families to lose children suddenly out of no where. This is happening everywhere and all over the United States.

Be vigilant, be knowledgeable, be loud. You could save a life.
